Atypical Upper Abdominal Complaints and Clinical Observation of Cascade Stomach

Abstract
We had a chance to get several results from 90 cases of cascade stomach, in the department of internal medicine, Jeonbug National University Hospital from January, 1974 to the end of 1975.
The results were obtained as follows:
1. Among the total 875 upper G-I study cases, 90 cases were cascade stomach (10. 3%) : men were.62 cases (68. 9%) and women 28 cases (31. 9%).
2. Among the 90 cases of cascade stomach, 37 cases (41. 1%) had underlying diseases and 53 cases (58. 9%) had only cascade stomach.
3. Among the 37 cases with underlying diseases, duodenal ulcer were 18 cases (48.7%). gastric ulcer 8 cases (21. 7%), gastric malignancy 4 cases (13.6%), esophageal malignancy 1 case (2. 8%) and others were chronic colitis, pancreatitis, postgastrectomy syndrome and peritonitis etc.
4. Main clinical manifestations were hnger pain 33. 3%, nausea and vomiting 35. 6%, epigastric fullness 18. 4%, indigestion 18.4¡Æ%0, upper abdominal distention 11. 1%, constipation 11. 1% neurological complaints such as headache, vertigo, palpitation, hot sensation and dyspnea 25.6%, chest discomfort 7.8% and belching 6.7%. The others were left upper abdominal pain, abdominal foreign body sensation, flatulence and dysphagia in orders.
5. In shape of stomach in fluorscopic study, eutonic type was 48.3%, hypertonic 46.7% and hypotonic 6. 0%.
6. In the degree of cascade deformity of stomach, mild was 78.9%, moderate 14.5% and severe 6.6%.
7. For the treatment of the patients with cascade stomach, we tried to advice changing position after meal and taking bland diet, antacids, some kinds of sedatives, mucosal protectives and anticholinergic drugs, but in severe case, we inserted levin tube and recommended surgical -repair.
